Abstract/Summary:
This magazine-length article explores the little-known issue of "evidence animals," animals seized during animal cruelty prosecutions and held at animal shelters around the country pending disposition of the cases. Featuring interviews with animal control managers, animal welfare experts and attorneys, the article describes the problems that arise when animals are held in confinement for long periods of time and explains a complicated legal backdrop that allows this problem to occur.
