Abstract/Summary:
In this analysis, a parametric study on the ultimate soil bearing capacity for shallow foundations was conducted using spreadsheet programs. QuattroPro 5.0 is selected due to its availability and powerful applications. This thesis was first conducted by studying the fundamental theory of the ultimate soil bearing capacity proposed by Meyerhof (1963). Spreadsheet database templates were then developed to solve the ultimate soil bearing capacity equations based on various soil parameters and foundation conditions. The results obtained were presented in the form of tables and graphs to show the influences of parameters on the ultimate soil bearing capacity. The parametric study from spreadsheet applications on the ultimate soil bearing capacity is very useful for designing and analyzing the various types of structural foundations.
