The objective of the project was to investigate the structural stability of a thin walled steel sheet metal industrial duct with specific loading and support condition.; The buckling failure mode was investigated by theoretical analysis, finite element modeling, and structural test. The structure was fabricated from hot rolled ASTM A-569 steel sheet (commercial quality), welded and stiffened with ASTM A-36 hot rolled steel angle.; The result of the project showed that buckling of the duct side wall over the support was the critical failure mode. |
