Abstract/Summary:
Heterocyclic amines, such as 2,2-biimidazole, and aliphatic amines, for instance, n-proplyamine, constitute a valuable class of compounds with interesting chemical properties. The nucleophilic feature of these amines can be applied to synthesize new materials that have many desirable attributes.; A practical method for the synthesis of new 1,1-diester, diamide, dinitrile, disulfone, and diacrylate derivatives of 2,2-biimidazole will be presented. The single-crystal X-ray structural characterization of the prepared derivatives is strongly supported by their solution and solid phase properties.; A one-step and two-step Michael addition of n-propylamine to diacrylates was utilized to synthesize a series of polyamine esters. The polymers were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Molecular weight studies suggest that the two-step polymers can have relatively higher molecular weights and broader molecular weight distributions. Higher glass transition temperature (Tg) values for the two-step polymers were also observed. These polymers show reasonable thermal stability. The synthesis and structures of these polymers are presented.
