This thesis addresses the topic of structure-properties relationships in two elastomer systems, a thermoplastic and a thermoset, fabricated by the addition of conductive fillers of different geometries to the elastomer matrix with the intent of lowering the volume resistivity.; Filler concentrations exceeding 35 percent by volume decrease the resistivity of the matrix by approximatively 12 orders of magnitude compared to the unfilled elastomer, but have a reinforcing effect manifested in higher elastic modulus values. The objective of the current research is to establish the limits of elastic modulus and bulk resistivity in both elastomer systems, and evaluate their mechanical and electrical properties upon addition of increasing concentrations of silver-silica spheres and fibers, and mica flakes.
