Abstract/Summary:
The textiles and clothing industry is listed as one of Botswana's main exports. According to the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) website, greater opportunities for this industry exist due to Botswana's membership in the African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA); other organizations include Southern African Customs Union (SACU), World Trade Organizations, Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and SADC. This study analyzed the impact of the textiles and clothing industry on the imports, exports, and economy of Botswana. The study incorporated descriptive and inferential statistical methods to analyze available data. The data collected and analyzed show an impact on the imports, exports, and the economy though it is not significant. Also the number of trade organizations in Botswana does not make a significant difference to the Gross National Income. The researcher concluded that the industry contributes to the imports, exports, and the economy but more companies engaging in international trade can make the contribution significant.
