Abstract/Summary:
This work aims to address two different issues from the industrial application of advanced process control and development of process simulation program to aid formulation of a customized mathematical model for chemical process or phenomena.;In the first part, we explore the use of parallel coordinate systems to visualize and interpret the effect of constraints on Multivariable Controllers (MVC). This system shows great promise in allowing us to understand the MVC trade-offs between constraints, as we can use it to display the set points, present values, and limits of both controlled variables and manipulated variables on the same two dimensional plot. This method is demonstrated for a two input, two output system and compared to a two dimensional phase plane approach and temporal plot for a system described in the literature. The proposed method is also extended to three-input, three-output MVC controller.;In the second part, we develop a flowsheeting program in MATLAB. Engineers and researchers are forced to develop their own user model on the chosen language of the simulation software. Those languages are ether difficult to learn or not suitable for complex process. Unlike those programming, MATLAB provides easier way of programming and developing algorithm. Four different process flow diagrams are simulated using MATLAB flowsheeting program and comparisons are made with Aspen Plus to check the performance.
