Abstract/Summary:
This thesis presents the design and implementation of a POSIX 1003.1b compatible embedded Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) kernel and signal module for the MC68HC12 micro-controller. This RTOS is the first embedded real-time operating system for the MC68HC12.; A brief survey includes several important issues emerging in the design stage, such as the standard the RTOS follows, architecture, the scheduling mechanism, synchronization methods, interrupt and trap handling, clock and timer, and signal mechanisms.; A practical design for the MC68HC12 is introduced. From these results a detailed implementation description of data structures and several functions consisting of the framework of kernel and signal module was drawn up.; The implementation is evaluated by testing the performance character on MC68HC12 evaluation board with the GNU MC68HC12 cross-compiler and remote debugger. A description of the test environment and a test report are given at the end of this thesis.
