Abstract/Summary:
At Home in the Universe focuses on self-ordering and identity as defined in the privacy of our homes and manifested in our domestic structure. This project speaks about self-organization, representation, and consumerism in the interior world of middle-class America. Behind closed doors, identity is freed from the spectators' gaze and is subjugated only by self. With my camera, I explore a living domestic landscape that speaks about the cliches, chaos, and continuous flux of contemporary living. With a clear and disengaged look, this series of fourteen twenty-five by thirty-inch scale inkjet prints embraces the incongruent and sometimes banal realities of human experiences in our everyday existence. The theories of entropy and complexity also serve as underlying aesthetic and contextual structures to the work. At Home in the Universe is voyeuristic in nature, yet the importance of this work lies in the revelatory responses it elicits.
