Abstract/Summary:
In the first and second generation of wireless networks, the assignment of cells to switches consist of finding an optimal assignment of a set of n cells to a set of m switches, that minimizes the overall cost composed of handoffs cost between cells, and the cost of links between equipments. This assignment problem is known as being NP-hard; so forth heuristic methods are often used to solve it. But the introduction of third generation wireless networks with new equipment, new data services and new network architecture adds more challenges to the network planners some of them related to the cell assignment problem already known as NP-hard.; The main objective of this thesis is to study the whole problematic of cell assignment to switches in the 3G wireless networks. For that purpose, we developed a mathematic model for the assignment of cells to switches. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
