Abstract/Summary:
This thesis will cover the aspect of data mining as one of the most powerful tools to support the decision makers to come up with the best decision to their knowledge.; Based on my experience as an IT Consultant, I found that it is very difficult for governments (specially in the Middle East) to conduct fully integrated data mining exercises....; Sometimes because of lack of automated systems, or because of the diversity of systems and structures where you may get different results when you try to get the same piece of information (one person's profession) in different databases.; The governments are using data mining in the following four basic aspects: (1) Gain an understanding; (2) Make a preliminary assessment of the adequacy of the decisions; (3) Test the effectiveness of the decision; and (4) Identify, using data mining, case studies demonstrating the cause and real life effect of the decisions.; An important element of success in the decision making process is the integration of different governmental agencies' and ministries' data.; In developing effective data mining strategies, they have to have a thorough understanding of the various factors affecting the decision making and the resulting consequences related to the citizens.
