Abstract/Summary:
Static tests are a widely used tool to predict the acid generating potential of mine wastes (more specifically mine tailings), from the early exploration stages to the design of mining projects.; This main objective of this research is to compare different static test results and to evaluate the effect of alteration for mine tailings having a low acid generating potential. In this study the results of static tests are compared for five tailing samples taken from mines located in Abitibi-Temiscamingue, Quebec. Comparisons between these tests established that the most appropriate prediction method for low acid generating potential mine tailings is the mineralogical static test by Lawrence and Scheske (1997). The particularities of the studied static tests were also emphasized from these comparisons. Finally, guidelines for the selection of a static test were proposed based on the mineralogical compositions of the samples to analyze. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
