| The software companies devote very significant efforts for the user interface design. This research concerns the study of a design approach for particular interface which is the task-oriented approach.; The objective of this research consists to show the effectiveness of the task-oriented approach to design the interface. The demonstration will be done by creating a task-oriented interface for selected software. GIMP, an image processing application, is an excellent candidate for interface redesign. The high density of information and complexity of interface make GIMP very difficult to use. The new task oriented interface will make GIMP more usable. To design a task oriented interface, it is necessary to perform a tasks and users analysis.
