Abstract/Summary:
This thesis focuses on evaluation of adult learning in a continuing professional education (CPE) workshop provided for preceptors within in the context of a problem-based learning program. The emphasis is transfer and impact of learning. The study's qualitative methodology includes telephone interviews with 10 participants 2 years after a CPE workshop in two regional locations in proximity to the practice settings for students of a college of pharmacy. The CPE session modeled a participatory, adult learning process focused on ongoing needs assessment. The evaluation of the workshop, the focus of this thesis, deepens the understanding of how accountability can enhance academic programs of the health professions, including pharmacy, by linking practice standards and professional competence.; The interview questions encouraged the participants to reflect on their personal learning and to discuss how this learning led to behaviour changes at their practice site that were motivated by their workshop learning and the subsequent impact of those behaviour changes.
