Undocumented children in the child welfare system: Social work students' beliefs and attitudes

Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine the beliefs and attitudes of Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) students regarding provision of services to undocumented children in the child welfare system. This study utilized a convenience sample of 110 M.S.W. students at California State University, Long Beach These students completed a self-administered, 22-item questionnaire. This study found significant differences in beliefs and attitudes regarding provision of educational and independent living services between respondents of different ethnic backgrounds. Differences regarding provision of all services between respondents of different political ideologies were found. No differences were found to exist among respondents with different concentrations. Further research is suggested. This study concludes with recommendations for policy and practice.
