Abstract/Summary:
This thesis explores the Jungian concept of the tension of the opposites and the transcendent function through the practice of yoga and how the integration of opposites can lead to a deeper connection to Self. The body is viewed as a vessel in which transformation can take place through the practice of yoga. Employing heuristic methodology, the author's own experience demonstrates how yoga is an effective practice that joins masculine and feminine energies to create a connection between mind, body, and soul, which can foster a connection with the divine. This thesis demonstrates the value of incorporating a somatic-based practice in conjunction with psychotherapy to further the process of individuation, healing, and a feeling of wholeness.
