Abstract/Summary:
This project proposes the development of a new Associate in Science degree program in Global Communications Studies for the diverse student population attending community colleges today. It also considers expected trends in enrollment for this same population during the next decade. The proposal contains a review of current undergraduate courses in communications, mass media, global communications, cultural studies and global studies. This project provides new degree program key competencies, definitions and key terms, course descriptions, and sample courses in Intercultural Communications and Global Media and World News. There is also discussion of integrating global education into the missions of community colleges, and a review of projected employment opportunities in global communications, media, news, public relations and online technology.
