Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research project is to test the effectiveness of an instructional program designed to aid students in understanding basic math equations. The Math Training Station, written by the researcher, is a program that contains audio and visual interactivity to help captivate students' interest in math. The twenty-four students that participated in the study consisted of seven females and seventeen males, with ages ranging from thirteen to fifteen. A pretest was administered to each student to measure his or her baseline ability in mathematics. The students were selected from two Special Day Classes (SDC), where many of them displayed difficulty in solving basic math problems. The statistical results from the study showed that students' understanding of basic mathematics increased after using the instructional software. The Math Training Station would therefore be a valuable mathematical tool or resource in any classroom where students are willing to learn.
