Abstract/Summary:
This study was undertaken to describe the experience of people with a mobility disability, during armed conflict and post-conflict situations in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The international classification of functioning disability and health (ICF), specifically the participation domains and environmental factors, was the underlying theoretical framework guiding the research design, the choice of instruments, the data analysis and the discussion. The study used a mixed-method design with a predominant qualitative approach. It combines one qualitative questionnaire designed by the researcher and two standardized quantitative instruments, the Community Integration Measure (CIM) and the Craig Hospital Inventory of Environmental Factors (CHIEF). There were nineteen participants from two different communities, a segregated community of disabled people in the area of Freetown (Grafton) and an integrated community of disabled people living within a city in the North (Makeni).
