Abstract/Summary:
To date, little work has been done to understand factors that should be considered in making drug formulary decisions. Studies that have been conducted have had various limitations. Using a pre-tested questionnaire sent to Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee Members, this study aimed to identify and rank the factors considered important in the formulary review process. Participants were identified from New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania through a National Directory of Managed Care Organizations. Multiple factors were identified in this study as being considered in the drug formulary review process. Respondents ranked their perceived importance of each factor. Rankings were compared across three variables, including organization type, profession of respondents and their position on the committee to determine any statistically significant differences.
