By examining how artists Jen Blazina, Kara Walker, and Joan Lyons use imagery and text to address issues of identity- including elements of memory, family relationships, and history, either real or constructed - this thesis demonstrates that heritage through narrative, as it relates to the individual, is a powerful thematic element that has the potential to move a piece of art beyond the artist's personal experience to have a broader appeal and significance. |
