Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to determine if there has been a shift in design thinking from the renaissance to now. More specifically a shift away from the ideal of design that emphasizes creative ideas and originality (as embodied in the Italian Renaissance) towards the modern practice of design that emphasizes product, production of product, and/or the reworking and remixing of ideas in lieu of fresh, original ones.;As an architect the artifacts I am primarily concerned with relate to environment - built, unbuilt, conceptual and virtual. Through both interviews and an analysis of the working habits of notable designers (i.e., those recognized as being creative) producing these environments, the study provides answers to three main questions.
