Abstract/Summary:
Since Urist described ectopic bone induction in implantation of demineralized bone matrix (DBM) in rabbits and rats, DBM has broadly used in many medical fields. DBM has both osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties and it is a good bone graft material, but it has its limitations, such as assayed activity, handling techniques, physical properties, and condition of storage.; Our aim of this study is to make DBM-polymer structural bone graft for various medical applications. Polyurethane is the polymer we selected for this study because of its medical grade. Polyurethane is non-toxic, biocompatible, and easy to make various shapes we want. We made DBM-polyurethane composite with different ratios. The active growth factors release rate changed because of the composition. To validate activity of DBM-polyurethane composite, rat bone marrow cells cultured on DBM-polyurethane composite and we measured cell growth and differentiation. DBM-polyurethane composite showed favorable properties in vitro assays.
