Genetic tests clinically available are rapidly expanding and enhancements to pre-existing genetic tests are constantly evolving. Medical professionals utilizing genetic information must continually and consistently evaluate what level of testing is appropriate and should be pursued. When should additional testing be offered?;BRACAnalysis Rearrangement Test (BART) is a newer level of genetic testing available to detect very rare deleterious mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2. However, no previous studies have assessed the clinical utilization of this additional level of testing. This study aimed to examine the knowledge, perceptions, and clinical utilization of BART among genetic counselors and obstetrics/gynecologists. We found that overall providers perceive BART as useful; however there are discrepancies between provider groups in terms of clinical use and knowledge of BART. We identified an opportunity for educational support, regarding the benefits and limitations of BART, to further promote comprehensive care. |
