Abstract/Summary:
he objective of this thesis was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a pilot pharmacy-based influenza immunization program targeting high-risk individuals in Halifax Nova Scotia, in 2003-2004. The pilot program involved 43 private pharmacies and vaccinated 2,828 patients using private-agency nurses and public health nurses. Over 20% of patients had not been previously immunized against influenza.;A decision-tree model was used to estimate the effects of the pilot program on a population of 100,000 high-risk individuals. The empirical results from the pilot and Canadian epidemiological data were used for model parameters. Cost data was collected to estimate the pilot program costs and hospital costs.
