Filling in the gaps: Using geophysics to predict site structure at the Saladoid site of PA-15 Antigua, West Indies

In the Lesser Antilles, studies of site structure are now moving beyond those of ceramic seriation that defined the early study of the Saladoid period. This study describes the results of three seasons of fieldwork at the Saladoid site of PA-15 on the southern coast of Antigua. The research indicates that artifact and feature distributions across space in combination with remote sensing output may be an effective combination of techniques if an understanding of site structure is the desired goal. The predictive model assembled infers the presence of a large roundhouse, a smaller work hut, cleared areas and middens that are configured to create the site's framework. This study provides an analytical substructure and preliminary interpretations on which future research will be built.
