| Based on the statistics from NHTSA it is seen that the primary cause of accidents are the frontal collisions. The prime occupant injured during the frontal collision is the drivers. In the United States, partial collapse and intrusion into the vehicle compartment occurs in more than half of the crashes in which there are serious injuries. The major vehicles involved in the frontal collisions are the passenger cars. As per the data from NHTSA about 59% of the total vehicles involved are the passenger cars. A lot of research is conducted in the field of frontal collision, to improve the dynamic behavior of the vehicle body.; This research is to check the feasibility of an Extendable Bumper during the frontal collision. Ford Taurus model is used for the analysis. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)... |
