The Waldo Canyon Fire destroyed 346 homes, evacuated 32,000 residents and killed two people in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 26, 2012. The development of naturally forested areas and the effects of global warming have lead to an increase in destructive wildfires. This project is a visual investigation of the consequences of living in wildfire red zones. Photographs, video, interviews and archival and news footage to document the aftermath of a community as they deal with the rebuilding of their community and their lives. Surprisingly, few residences feel the need to change their behavior in order to prevent future wildfires. |
