Abstract/Summary:
The manufacturing companies have nowadays to deal with new environmental challenges. In this respect, they try to better define the impact of all activities and when possible, to emphasize their environmental performance. In certain sectors, where the competition is particularly strong, the ability to offer a competitive value proposition with low environmental impact can allow the company to increase considerably its market shares. The aim of this study is to quantify the environmental footprint by realizing a life cycle assessment and identify value chain improvements on the basis of the measured environmental impacts for a glued laminated timber producer. The results bring to light the stakes raised by a life cycle assessment from specific data in the context of the province of Quebec in comparison to European and American contexts. In this case study, greenhouse gas emissions are of the order of half of those estimated in the available databases.;Keywords Life cycle assessment; harvesting wood products; Boreal forest; Construction materials; regionalization.
