The problem of steady state seepage through a homogeneous, isotropic earth dam with vertical sides overlying a horizontal impermeable base has been adequately solved through a sequence of numerical calculations. The known parameters of the earth dam are the length of the base of the earth dam, and the steady water elevation at the entrance and exit faces of the dam. The height of the seepage face and the coordinates of the phreatic surface can be determined for any possible configuration of the known dimensions of the earth dam. These calculations are made less difficult with the use of mathematical computer software. The results obtained from these calculations are graphed with corresponding algebraic relationships that can be used to quickly and accurately replicate the exact solutions. |
