| The purpose of this research work was the investigation into the design and implementation of a surface temperature controller for the heating module of a hot embossing microreplication microfabrication system.; The thermal behavior of an equivalent system, a test bed and the actuators (heating cartridges), was studied. A detail control strategy was devised, and an artificial intelligence based controller was designed. The control action of the entire process was divided into two parts; a neural network component to compute the required time to reach the desired embossing temperature quickly and monotonically, and a fuzzy logic component to compute the required pulse time intervals to keep the temperature within an error bound relative to the desired temperature. The controller was implemented within LabVIEW using MATLAB and its performance was verified for various operating conditions. |
