Abstract/Summary:
This project is a study of the hydromechanical behavior of sludge, during the suspension, sedimentation/clarification and consolidation stages. To achieve this, we developed an experimental approach to the study of sludge behavior, first aiming to improve our understanding of their characteristics, in order to improve waste basin management and to increase their physical and chemical stability. To carry out this study, we have built a laboratory set-up incorporating a large Plexiglas column (about 2 meters high). The column, which can be drained from below, is built on a steel base. The system also contains a mobile aluminum support plate around the column, movable along its vertical are with an electric motor. The set-up is also equipped with extensive instrumentation.; Sedimentation and consolidation tests in columns may last many weeks. These include a suspension/sedimentation phase, followed by a consolidation phase under self weight. We also provoked another consolidation phase with the application of external loads, using a drained piston linked to weights. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
