Abstract/Summary:
This collection of poems explores the lifestyle and introspections of an American expatriate English teacher living in Masan, South Korea. The poems take place primarily in South Korea, and the voices within the poems reflect the various characters encountered by the expatriate, as well as the voice of the American himself. The themes of cultural alienation, integration, the unifying but potentially cruel aspects of food, failures of language, the excesses of expatriate communities overseas, and cultural acceptance are prevalent throughout the manuscript.
