Abstract/Summary:
Molecular biology attempts to understand biological systems by breaking them down and studying their parts individually. In contrast, systems biology looks to understand systems by studying them as a whole. Research efforts from fields such as mathematics and biology are needed to help reach this system-level goal of systems biology. Many different mathematical models are used to study biological systems. In this paper, we report our investigation on Boolean networks and polynomial dynamical systems. We will also present the theory of Groebner bases and an algebraic approach to constructing polynomial dynamical systems. Finally, we will report a more efficient method of computing Groebner bases in Boolean rings.
