Abstract/Summary:
This thesis studies globalization and how it relates to total factor productivity (TFP) and employment through the lens of micro level data. We exploit a unique dataset for France matching Balance of Payments data with custom sources together with an extensive set of firm level characteristics. The first chapter investigates how expansion in the number of traded varieties impact TFP. Significant impact is found after properly dealing with measurement problems. The second chapter focuses on the effects of lower import prices on employment whereas the third chapter look at which firms tend to go global---through export and/or FDI---with a closer look at the service market.
