Abstract/Summary:
This study proposed that during the recession period, domestic companies in China would engage in more caring responses than multinational ones and therefore enjoy higher affective commitment (AC) and organizational citizenship (OCB) behavior among their employees. It was also proposed that the employees' psychological contract would moderate the relationships between organizational responses and AC and OCB. Based on the results of the participants ( N=238), domestic companies did engage in more caring responses during the recession period than did multinational ones. However, although domestic employees had a higher level of AC and more OCB than multinational employees, the differences were not significant. Also, while the employees of the domestic companies had more relational psychological contracts and the employees of the multinational companies had more transactional psychological contracts, the moderating effect of the employees' psychological contract was not found in this study. Two strong findings that did emerge were the positive correlations between organizational responses and AC (r=.65) and between organizational responses and OCB (r=.25).
