Diseno asistido por Internet para sistemas mecanicos - IAD

In this work it's desired to take advantage of the enormous amount of dispersed information available in the Internet that can be integrated into the automation of the mechanical design process. Technologies related to the Internet, design automation and the integration of these are explored in this work.; A worm gear transmission will be used as the case study to the integration of the Internet with mechanical design automation. The particular case study was selected because it has relatively few components yet it contains the steps representative of a typical machine design process with the selection of components. Therefore it is possible to contrast the traditional design process with the proposed Internet aided design process.; As a result of the study it was observed that HTML which is used by suppliers of mechanical components to provide information on the Internet is not the most appropriate means if design automation is desired. It was found that the emerging technology of "Web Services" is a feasible alternative compatible with the existing Internet infrastructure. A demonstration system automating the worm gear transmission design is presented.
