A web-based image analysis and database system for cellular size information

Cell size information is very important to scientific research. We have developed a web-based cell size analysis and database system to collect, analyze and share cell size information. The system provides capabilities needed in a scientific research laboratory environment. The underlying database system stores microscopic images depicting variety of cells and information related to cellular size. The analytical part of the system enables users to perform a number of statistical and morphological measurements based on the stored images. Different access rights to the database system are provided for three levels of users.;This project has been implemented using Perl server-side scripting language, MySQL database server, and Apache Web Server. An internet website http://www.cellsizedatabase.com has been successfully set up to proof-test the image analysis and database system. We believe the existence of our system will bring great benefits to the research groups and laboratories in the related fields worldwide.
