Abstract/Summary:
Decision making related to the IT infrastructure environment assumes there is an accurate up-to-date information source, but existing repositories harbor thousands of information fragments, which need to be consolidated or federated. We propose automating the discovery and mapping of relevant information from the IT infrastructure environment itself where possible. This approach discovers source content that can be hidden in configuration documents, log files, file system, and host-to-host communication records. The harvested information can be used by organizations to audit the validity of existing systems and to support process improvement initiatives such as IT governance, system enhancements, migration, upgrades, compliance, and minimally for auditing of source data.
