In many electronic systems such as battery chargers or electroplating, constant current sources are required. The use of a linear regulator is inadvisable due to the high power dissipation in its series pass circuit elements.;In this thesis, three different constant-current sources are designed, prototyped and characterized. It was found that the constant-current sources using PIC16F877A gave the best line and load regulations. Next best was constant-current buck converter using TL594 analog IC controller. The constant-current flyback converter using TOP227YAI TOPSWITCH yields the largest line and load regulations, due to its wide range of ac input. |
