This study was conducted to determine how Taiwanese Bulletin Board System users build new online friendships and maintain friendships with regards to their intimacy and interpersonal attraction in cyberspace. Miller Social Intimacy Scale (MSIS) was used to measure the level of intimacy in their face-to-face conditions and computer-mediated communication conditions. McCroskey and McCain's measure of interpersonal attraction was used to measure the level of interpersonal attraction in their face-to-face conditions and computer-mediated communication conditions. This study addressed that the computer-mediated communication (CMC) conditions differ from the face-to-face conditions in BBS users regarding intimacy and interpersonal attraction. |
