Abstract/Summary:
To anticipate the growing user demand for wireless multimedia services, next generation wireless networks are expected to provide a diverse range of voice, video and data services to wireless mobile users with guaranteed quality of service (QoS). The problems of resource provisioning to support multimedia communication services with differentiated QoS requirement in the next generation wireless networks are studied in this thesis. Stochastic control of an integrated resource provisioning via Markov Decision Process (MDP) technique is proposed to provide consistent connection-level and application-level QoS guarantee for multimedia communication services characterized with non-stationary traffic arrivals and high mobility.QoS provisioning in WMN is a challenging task because of multi-hop communication and dynamic topology change due to terminal mobility. This requires development of novel techniques, such as those based on the cross-layer design to enhance performance by enabling information sharing and control coupling across the protocol stack. This dissertation proposes an end-to-end resource provisioning scheme to enable QoS provisioning in WMN under the cross-layer paradigm based on the aforementioned single node resource provisioning scheme.
