Abstract/Summary:
With rapidly growing location technologies, a land mobile receiver for GPS system with high accuracy positioning becomes more and more important. Although the GPS system has been developed, it still suffers from the accuracy problem especially for urban canyons with moving receiver usage. The path of radio frequency signals from the satellites to the receiver has the multipath phenomenon due to diffraction, reflection, and scatterings. There existing theories to describe multipath phenomenon. Unfortunately, there is a gap between the theoretical and practical world. Multipath channel simulation is providing the laboratory representation of real world environments for the designers to enhance the accuracy for GPS system. For a moving land mobile receiver, it is hard to say what the single fading channel such as only Rayleigh or Rician distribution dominates the multipath phenomenon.;Combined fading channel model with the satellite elevation angle consideration is used to describe the multipath environment. Not only did the thesis implement the existing channel model, but it also represented the model in several ways in different simulation environments. The main goal of this thesis is to provide GPS designers a more accurate channel model for a randomly moving receiver.
