| This thesis is composed of three primary components. Part I provides a history of how gender mainstreaming emerged as the preferred strategy for pursuing gender equality within the United Nations. Part II is intended as a guidebook for practitioners and academics, compiling in one place the concepts associated with the mainstreaming strategy, the tools and resources available for implementation, and outlining commonly cited successes and shortcomings of gender mainstreaming. Part III compares and contrasts the implementation of gender mainstreaming within two United Nations funds, in order to highlight possible areas of focus for future research. |
