Abstract/Summary:
In fulfillment of the Masters of Fine Arts degree in dance, three dances were performed at the Martha B. Knoebel Dance Theater at California State University, Long Beach. Wandering in Memory, a 13 minute dance for nine dancers, premiered October 7, 2004. Interplay, a 13 minute dance for six dancers, premiered April 28, 2005. Solo/Excursion into Philosophy, a 20 minute dance for four dancers, premiered November 17, 2005.;Wandering in Memory attempted to explore a sense of history and perspective and the ways in which memories can be viewed differently over time. Interplay was an exploration of themes concerning dynamics and structure. The dance intended to give focus to the qualitative investigation of effort, force, and variation in intensity as a means to exploring dynamic range in movement. Solo/Excursion into Philosophy explored the solo form in the context of a quartet and investigated themes of isolation and loneliness.
