Abstract/Summary:
This thesis aims to study and critically compare various aspects of Jane Austen's most popular novel Pride and Prejudice with its late twentieth century and early twenty-first century film counterparts. These films include BBC's 1995 adaptation, Bridget Jones's Diary, Bride and Prejudice, and Focus Feature's 2005 film. In visually demonstrating Austen's character development, each film highlights and explores a key factor in Elizabeth and Darcy's maturation. These influences include: the characters' sexuality, their loneliness, their social standing, and their youth.
