This project combines the studies of convergence theory, narrative theory, and new media studies in order to analyze adolescent literature novels that incorporate digital content as a way of furthering the narrative. I will discuss how the evolution of these types of novels challenge traditional notions regarding the implied reader. I argue that these novels require both readers and scholars alike to modify how they read and study the different aspects of the texts. The study breaks down these types of novels into three major categories based upon the media involved in the text. Instead of focusing entirely upon the protocols of traditional print media, these novels require that readers engage with digitalized content that provides readers with different artifacts and resources that the characters of the novels interact with, allowing readers to interact more deeply with the characters and the fictionalized world.
