During the creation and dissemination of popular novels of Ming & Qing dynasties, readers are the crucial factors that can not be ignored. It is dramatically helpful on comprehensive understanding of popular novels' formation and development processes, as well as the political, economic, cultural and social status of Ming and Qing dynasties by researching the relationships between readers and the creation and dissemination of popular novels. Based on elaboration of the previous literatures, and referencing of the reception aesthetics theories, the author tries to explore this topic by targeting novel readers as the research object which have been attracted little attention previously.By incorporating documents analysis and theoretical interpretations, focusing on analyzing of the relevant original literatures, the author comprehensively reviewed and then classified the information implied novel readers'which hided in the bodies, prefaces, legends, commentaries of novels; notes, letters, local records, epitaphs, and other literatures of Ming & Qing dynasties. Based on that, the author makes comprehensive analysis on the relationships between readers and popular novels' creation and dissemination of Ming & Qing dynasties.Overall consideration is given to the readers of popular novels of Ming & Qing dynasties. The author displayed the reading characteristics and situations for separate types of readers, and then further investigated readers'influences on novels'concepts, genres, languages and structures. In addition, the author analyzed the interactions between readers and popular novels'dissemination, focusing on the profound impacts of continuations and critics of Ming & Qing popular novels.The author points out that the readers had promoted the diversity of popular novels'concepts and genres; stimulated the reformation and development of popular novels'language, structures, and creation methodologies. The author also presented that the readers had expanded the spreading range, and enhanced social impacts of popular novels as well. It is concluded that readers provided the internal impetus for the prosperity of popular novels' creation and dissemination in Ming & Qing dynasties.
