Abstract/Summary:
As port cities around the globe struggle to deal with growing pressures to develop their waterfronts, it becomes increasingly important that we consider potential uses for these areas. This thesis tests the potential for an intermittent process of land appropriation along the waterfront of Halifax, Nova Scotia. An architectural proposition is put forth that is devised to stimulate interest and involvement and seeks to build awareness through experience. Remnants of past industries are collected and reflected upon in order to inspire more complex answers to the shifting futures of these harbourfront sites. A former municipal dump along the Halifax waterfront is selected for study.
