This study examined how Alberta Health Services (AHS) could engage the Information Technology (In and physician communities to work collaboratively to create champions of change who could lead the implementation of an Electronic Health Record (EHR). AHS has already invested significantly in computerization, but has encountered barriers to adoption of the technology along the way. There is opportunity for AHS to build stronger relationships between the IT staff and the physicians, who can give value to the system by integrating its use into their practice. The implementation comes at a time when the healthcare governance structure in Alberta is undergoing its second major change in the past five years. At risk of change fatigue occurring, the AHS is faced with the need to enhance relationships across the organization in order to emerge a stronger, healthier organization. |
